If you subscribe to the Monthly Updates, the data you access is accurate up through the end of the previous month. For example, if you are searching the database on July 20, you are accessing data that was accurate on June 30. Any changes made since the end of the previous month will not appear on the website until the following month's update. Please check again after next month's update to see if the license information has been updated. If not, you may contact DEA at 800-882-9539 to find out if there was an oversight. Unfortunately DEA cannot offer phone or e-mail based verifications of DEA licenses.
If you subscribe to the Weekly Updates, please check again next Tuesday to see if the renewal has been entered. If not, you may contact DEA at 800-882-9539 to find out if there was an oversight. Unfortunately DEA cannot offer phone or e-mail based verifications of DEA licenses.

Why can't I find this DEA number? I have the certificate in hand.
The most likely reason is that the license was issued too recently to have made it into the latest website update. Try again after the next update to see if it has been entered. If not, you may try contacting DEA at 800-882-9539 to find out if there was an oversight or if there is a problem with the license.
If the license was issued long enough ago that it should be in the database by now, your search may have been too narrow. Try changing your search parameters. For example, make sure you leave the Business Activity Code field at "Search All" and enter as little other information as possible. If you have the DEA number, enter only that. If you don't, try using just the provider's last name and ZIP code, or some other general information. Remember that the more information you enter into the search form, the less likely you are to get a result. If you still can't find the record on the website, you may try calling DEA to find out if there was an oversight or if there is a problem with the license.

I can't log in.
There are two different types of login errors:
"Invalid entry" means that you are entering an incorrect Username and/or Password. Double-check that you are using the correct login information. If you do not remember your password, try using the "Forgot your password" link to use the automated password-retrieval system. If you are not sure of your username, you may contact Global Internet Management at 800-538-3539 for help. Please have your account number or other account information available.
"You have exceeded the maximum allowable log in attempts" means that your IP address has been blocked from being able to log in to the website because you or someone else at your organization has tried too many times to log in unsuccessfully. Please call Global Internet Management at 800-538-3539 for help.
If you are logged in, it will say "You are logged in as (Your Username)" in red at the top of the page. If you are logged in but can't search, that usually means that your subscription has expired. If you are the account administrator, you can check your subscription status by going to Tools > My Account. You may also contact NTIS at 800-363-2068 to check the status of your account and for renewal information.

Why do I get the message "User can't perform search" when I try to run a verification search?
Most users get this message because their subscription has expired. The program maintains your login and password in its database so you are able to log in to the website, but because your subscription has expired, you are not permitted to perform a search.
You can check the expiration date of your account by going to Tools > My Account and scrolling down until you see "My Subscriptions."* That will show you the expiration date of your current subscription. If you account is expired, you should call NTIS at 800-363-2068 to renew, or find the renewal notice sent to you by NTIS.
*Note: You must be the administrator of your account to view your account details.

Why do some individuals who have Business Activity Codes of M or C have Inc or PC after their names?
Business activity C and M stand for practitioner and mid level practitioner respectively. However, there are some instances were they could also stand for either an incorporated individual or a business. Business activity C is for practitioners, however, practitioners can incorporate themselves so some doctors register with DEA as John Smith, M.D., P.C. or John Smith, M.D., INC. These registrants are individuals but they want PC or INC by their name to make it clear that they are also a corporation. Business activity M is for mid level practitioners but that term can be misleading. An M business activity can signify a Nurse Practitioner, Physician's Assistant, etc., these are individuals, however, we also register, ambulance services, nursing homes, animal shelters, etc. as mid level practitioners. Consequently business activity M could stand for and individual (e.g. a nurse practitioner) or a business (e.g. an animal shelter). It's up to your customer how they want to handle these special cases. If you have any further questions please use the Contact Us form on the left side of the screen.
